What do you do at Larsboda?

Larsboda is truly a boy paradise. A rustic cottage just off the shores of the Baltic with no indoor plumbing, no heat, no fresh water in the tap - no chores, no to dos, just fun and play.
So with all this free time on the hand, the biggest decision of the day is what to do next - target practice, darts, wood carving, tinkering, swinging, climbing, building, snoozing in a chair.. the possibilities are endless and that is before leaving the property.

Midsummer's Eve

We timed our visit to Sweden to coincide with the Midsummer's Eve celebration. Lukas and Noah happily participated in the dancing around the maypole, the games and Lukas even danced with his mormor! In between dance and games there was the obligatory 'fika' and of course the large Swedish smorgasbord.  A picture perfect day - just like the travel magazines: fika, fun, family, sun, song and smorgasbord.

Boat work

Lukas and his uncle Gunnar prepared the boat for summer season. They painted it, and installed a new battery before launching. The two engineers worked together on trouble shooting the non cooperative engine, and happily drove it around the to the bay where it is housed for the summer.

Lukas passed Gunnar's  boat test and was certified to take control of the boat for future rides.

Wild strawberries and blueberries

Noah set out to look for, pick, and eat his favorite berries - wild strawberries and blue berries. When we first arrive, he could only find wild strawberries, but as the week progressed, the blueberries ripened. No chance of starving when the forest is full of abundance.

At Larsboda at last

Two planes and a car ride and we are finally at Larsboda. We even beat the grandparents there and surprised them by sweeping off the evidence from uninvited guests, the squirrels. While waiting for dinner to arrive with mormor, we checked out the beach and tested the water temperature.

Father Son bonding

The new ham radio that Lukas acquired at the Hamvention requires a better antenna than what he owned. Fortunately, the former tenants left behind a large TV antenna that Lukas was given permission to dismantle and re-purpose. He has spent many hours in the back yard taking the antenna apart, and is now in the process of putting it back together. It is good that Dad is so handy and knowledgeable, providing guidance, direction and support.

While Lukas and Bob are discussing options and ideas, Noah helped beautify our rental by removing the water damaged paper that covered the garage windows. He skillfully attached opaque contact paper which upped the "looking good factor" of the house significantly!
