Walking in Central Park

The next day we crossed Central Park, this time on foot. The rain was hanging in the air and it was not nearly as much fun as we had had the day before biking in the sun. We did see some other parts of the park however, as we were not encumbered by bikes and enjoyed navigating around most of the puddles.

Cycling in Central Park

One morning we set out on bikes to explore the famous Central Park. We encountered lots of locals as we navigate the roads on the outskirt of the park. Interestingly, bike travel in the park was rather restricted and we found ourselves walking the bikes a fair amount to allow us to explore special little gardens, castles, ponds and water fountains. It was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of cars and taxis, crowded streets and noise and our legs appreciated a change in exercise after all our walking. It was a great sunny fall day making for a fantastic memory.

Culture in the City

We browsed, or rather breezed through some of New York City's most amazing museums - Natural History Museum, MOMA, Met, and Guggenheim, and even managed to sneak into a few less well known venues.

Buildings and bustling

There is so much to see in the city and we walked all over Manhattan trying to take in all the sights while experiencing the sights and smells, sounds and tastes of this great city.

Gardens and gelato

Barb, Lisa and Scott joined us on a walk at the newly opened raised gardens on the East Side. Despite the rather chilly weather, the cousins could not resist Grammy's kind offer of a gelato which they enjoyed while surveying the cityscape .

An afternoon with family

Lisa, Barb and Scott joined us for a walk through the 9-11 Memorial. The deep waterfalls clearly helped convey the immensity of the two buildings. Although these granite displays were impressive they were also rather somber. The rather small surviving tree inspired hope and resiliency. The span of emotions evoked in this area is wide just like when contemplating the day of September 11, 2001.
