Photos in the park

The temperatures dropped significantly in the past few days and the grey clouds hung low in the sky. When the sun finally appeared again, we could not resist the temptation to head outside and put our books aside and headed to the park.
It was a good time to capture Lukas as a new 13 year old, and chronicle the two brothers care for each other. The sun was out, but the temperature was not quiet as warm as we had anticipated and we quickly headed home to soup and school.

Math

I caught Bob and Noah discussing a math problem one evening, what a delightful conversation between a fabulous teacher and an attentive student.

If Lukas ruled the world, everyone would be free to tinker all day long, there would be no chores and no school, just robotics: creating, tinkering and programming. Since he does not rule the world, there are chores and there is school to be done, however, since he is in charge of his own schedule he has the ability to control some of his time. Knowing that the robot is beckoning is a great motivator eliminating almost all "dwaddling".

Get ready for Scout meeting

Bob and I sewed on the new patches for our two Second Class Scouts in preparation for the Court of Honor. The boys were part of the Color Guard, but my vantage point was pretty poor.

Solar eclipse

We checked out the solar eclipse in our front yard, using paper from our recycling bin.

Fall flying

The weather was fantastic. the sun shining, little wind and clear blue sky.  We took advantage of this great fall day and headed to the park for some flying. One must look carefully to see the planes, there are pretty small :-)

Columbus Day Parade

Despite its sophistication and its splendor, the city's Columbus Day Parade lent an air of small town celebration to Manhattan. The high school bands, the Italian community floats and the seemingly never ending line of Ms Italy's made for an enjoyable viewing and a fitting end to our time in New York City. The city is not just glam and splendor it is people and every day lives - just like everywhere else in this great nation.
