Tahquamenon Falls

One of the top sights of the UP is the Tahquamenon Falls. We spent the late afternoon, early evening hiking the falls' route enjoying the scenery from various angles.

Pictured Rocks

We headed further up the Peninsula to see the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. On our way, we stopped to explore a small waterfall, that due to all the recent rain was full and fast flowing.
The rocks are best seen from the water, so we boarded a large vessel and set out on Lake Superior to see another one of God's amazing canvases. The mist from the lake mixed with the light rain. We were thankful for the indoor heated cabin, yet could not resist heading outside to see first hand the amazing colors on the lake shore.

Rita's Water Ice

One of the fringe benefits of heading to the East Coast was catching a few Rita's Water Ice stands along the way. The weather totally cooperated, nothing quenches the thirst like a large Rita's and we indulged several times.

Camping in the UP

This year, there was a new word added to the official dictionary, yupers, which means someone who hails from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The yupers refer to those who live in the lower part of Michigan as trolls... living under the bridge.

Having heard lots about the UP, it seemed to be a great place for a vacation. The campsite was located right at the edge of the Lake Huron and afforded us a beautiful view of the lakes, the bridge, and the island. Since the campsite provided electricity this was a first, camping with electric skillet and hot water kettle. Noah added a lovely touch of flower to the table as I had forgotten the table cloth.

Even though many bugs met their match in the front of the car, there were plenty to go around.

Five miles long, Lake Huron on one side Lake Michigan on the other.

The climate and terrain reminded us all of Sweden, rain in June and even those little prickly mosquitos that quickly identified the cutest and sweetest of us all, Noah.

This is what Lukas did while in the car

We headed north for a family vacation and celebration of our wedding anniversary. The car was packed to the top with camping gear, food, car entertainment and bikes. Lukas found some space for the necessities....

Court of Honor

On Monday evening, we attended the Boy Scout Quarterly Court of Honor. Noah and Lukas were part of the Color Guard, were both awarded merit badges and Noah moved up to First Class. They are really enjoying scouting.

Private plans

Noah and Lukas have worked on yet another light weight radio controlled airplane. This one is built out of foam core purchased at the Dollar Store. They measured, traced, cut, shaped, fused, taped, adjusted and tinkered and the plan was finally ready for take off.
The boys invited Bob and his quadcopter to join the fun. Not to be outdone, Noah loaded up his various planes and copters, and off they went to the park.
