Swimming
When we booked this camp site, we asked about the weather in October and were told it is the best month, and the warmest month to camp at Big Sur. Well, we thought that is just the sales pitch... Having not collected scientific evidence all year long, we can only deduce from our empirical data that it was more than a pitch. It was nice and comfortable.
The boys quickly descended on the river and before long headed back up to change into swim gear. Lukas and Noah along with their friends spend a few hours playing in and around the water. Noah, not having much body fat, added an attractive wool cap to his swimming attire to stay warm - because warm in Big Sur is not warm like many other places....I even know of places where they would crank up the heater when the thermometer registered these temperatures. However, we have quickly adjusted to the cooler more temperate climate and Lukas and Noah likes water play. Later in the afternoon, they roped Bob in to help them build a bridge of rocks across the river - brings back memories of Lake Tahoe November 2008 and the multi day dam project.
When the sun moved lower in the sky, and their bellies wanting for a snack, the water play came to an end, only to be replaced by trail exploration, climbing up rocks and creating hiding places.
The boys who had their very good friends along, had such a great time, it was the perfect camp site for boys and adventure.
