Lemons

When life gives you lemons you make lemonade...
We have a small tree in our backyard that last year produced all of three small, dark green, hard as nut fruits - the peal was so thick that there was nothing left inside.
Based on some gardening tips provided by well meaning friends who can see how much in need I am of some good basic horticultural advice, we fertilized the little tree last spring and even spent some time weeding around the base.
This year, we have more lemons than we can count, and they seem to keep on coming. We have made Ralston Lime ehm Lemon Pie, a knock off from a Key Lime recipe we found online; Chicken and Shrimp Piccata, and whenever there is a call for lemon in any recipe the boys head outside for a picking. This past week, the weather sunny and balmy for our area, Lukas and Noah along with neighborhood boys harvested as many lemons as their t-shirts to handle and set out to make lemon drinks. They cut, they squeezed, they cut more - leaving a large sticky mess on the table - and yielding small amounts of relatively sweet juice to sip.
However, lemons are not just for eating, they are for play as well- the talking lemon had much to say about what is going on at the Ralston estate, and maybe a few years from now there will be a lemon grow cropping up behind our property line courtesy of the many lemons that found themselves thrown over our fence at dizzying speeds... oh the use of lemons.
