Checking out the fort

After hugging Grammy Hi, Noah set out to check on the fort that he and Lukas built in the early spring. We trekked through bramble and dried out grass, thorny bushes and wilted wild flowers, and watched in amazement as the grasshoppers by the thousands jumped out of our way. These poor critters,  not used to anyone invading their territory, dashed in every direction to avoid being crushed. The hot, dusty trek finally brought us to the concrete pile, the tell tale sign that we were approaching the fort, and sadly where we had to stop. The vegetation had completely taken over, making it impossible to see where to place our feet on the rocky, unstable ground, and we had to abort the mission. However, it was possible to take a picture and Noah wisely concluded that the next fort will be built upon the concrete pile not behind it.
