Sunsets are magnificent, but so are sunrises. The only trouble is the sunrise comes so early. Watching the sunrise over the Grand Canyon is something we wanted to do but, getting up at 3 am did not sound so exciting. What to do? Wait until December when the sun rises late! It was still early when we left the house, but certainly not 3 am.
Armed with winter clothes, scones, and hot cocoa in a thermos we set out for Grand Canyon. The drive began in the darkest of the night with a sky full of stars. As we approached the canyon, we began to see the sun's light under the horizon.
It was a little warmer there than here in Flagstaff, but the wind made us grateful for scarves, snow pants, and heavy gloves. We stood in awe as the sun rose, casting its rays inside the canyon and climbing above the horizon. It was well worth the early morning wake up call.
