Desserts

We are having fun exploring all the interesting food items in the grocery store. This weekend, we purchased dumplings with strawberry filling and mooncakes. We could not decide between the different types. Since they were inexpensive, we bought one of each.  The store also had

Back home, Lukas put the dumplings in a pot on our little electric one-eyed stove while we 'dissected' the mooncakes.  A quick Wikipedia search helped us appreciated the abundance of these cakes in the stores right now. The Mid-Autumn Festival is almost upon us. "A mooncake (simplified Chinese: 月饼; traditional Chinese: 月餅; pinyin: yuè bǐng; Jyutping: jyut6 beng2; Yale: yuht béng) is a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節). The festival is for lunar appreciation and moon watching, when mooncakes are regarded as an indispensable delicacy. Although the inside filling of the dumplings was tasty, the outside gelatinous mass made it hard to grab with the chopsticks and did not add anything to the taste.
