MREs

Lukas and Noah were excited to try Chinese ramen noodles and found some that looked very much like the ones that our local Walmart sells pallets full to college students. Being adventurous, they opted for trying another brand choosing the one that looked like a Tupperware container.  The containers were surprisingly heavy, and we understood why when we opened the boxes. Inside was a tray of rice, a bag of seasoning/protein, a muslin covered 'pillow' and a bag of water. A self-contained MRE Chinese style.
Following the pictorial instructions, Lukas and Noah poured the seasoning over the rice and the water over the pillow before placing the rice tray back on top and quickly adding the lid. In a few seconds, steam shot out of the small hole, and the container expanded. Seven minutes later dinner was ready. The verdict - cool cooking method and fun food.
