A Wild Hike

We took a break from the city noise and opted for a hike to get another overview of the city.  The goal was reaching Lion Rock, and although we never did get to it, we had a fun and eventful afternoon.  It was enjoyable to see the city from above, and once again we were struck by the silence and the solitude so close to a metropolitan area.  On our way up, we had seen signs warning us not to feed wild animals. The warning seemed superfluous as we did not see any and besides the tall barbwire fence would prevent contact. In our minds, we were thinking wild boars maybe but most likely smaller vermin like critters - we were after all in Hong Kong, a large city.  As we descended towards the city, we had still not observed much wildlife and had only one turn before we were back among high rises and heavy car traffic. A noise startled us, and we were face to face with wild monkeys. They did not seem bothered by spikes, nor restricted by tall fences. One rather large monkey headed towards us and only reversed course when faced with a swinging selfie stick.  An afternoon we will not soon forget.
