Our next stop was the Garden of Gethsemane. I think we were all surprised at its size; it is rather small. One can see Jerusalem from the garden, but the walk means going down a hill and then up a hill to get to the city. Secluded from the town, it was a welcome reprieve from the hustle and bustle of getting ready for a festival - it is easy to comprehend how this would have been a place Jesus would seek out for prayer.
Like many other holy places in Israel, the spot is now marked by a church.
