Via Dolorosa

After we left the Temple Mount, we walked Via Dolorosa, the road along which Jesus carried his cross. There are 14 significant events (stations) leading up to the crucifixion outside the city, each marked by a church today. The Church of Holy Sepulchre is home to six different dominations and is located on the ground of the last three stations. The smells, the sounds, the noise, and the people were very much like those at the time of Jesus.  We walked in and out of churches, marveling at old pavers and trying to imagine what it would have looked like 2000 years ago. Some of the churches were old, whereas others were constructed in the last 50 years - offering a wide variety of perspectives and ambiances.

markings dated back to Jesus' time - maybe a game of lot?

Handprint of Jesus as he stumbled and shored himself up along the wall

Yes, there were bazaars back then as well, but probably not selling jeans...
