Jordan River

Visiting the Jordan river was a highlight of the trip. The river that we read so much about and that we had driven alongside, it was now time to stop and dip our hands into.
The contrasts of ancient and current collided at the river - it is not even five feet across. On this side it is Israel, on the other side, it is Jordan. No soldiers were in sight, but we were assured that they were watching so that nobody crossed over illegally.
We saw a group clothed in white linen shirts, preparing to be baptized, who were singing praise songs - a joyful noise to the Lord.
I could almost visualize John the Baptist standing in the middle of this shallow river, baptizing and preaching.

The people on the other side of the river are in Jordan
