Winter Routine

It is becoming part of our regular routine to go skiing - the boys quickly load the car and off we go for an afternoon of downhill skiing. The views are amazing and the company fun!

Just a Little Bit Longer

All the applications are submitted, scholarship essays are crafted, but the school work is not quite done yet. Lukas is diligently checking off items on his daily school list. He is managing his senioritis well.

Freezer Food

Noah cooked dinner from the freezer, and we enjoyed delicious potstickers. He also helped dip frozen peanut balls in chocolate...

Martin Luther King Weekend

Bob, Lukas, and Noah celebrated the Martin Luther King holiday with a Boys Scout camp-out in warmer southern Arizona. The weekend included hiking into a canyon to see the only Arizona native palm trees and rockhounding. Lukas, who is now an Assistant Scoutmaster, cooked for the adults who ate well the entire weekend. Noah, as the Senior Patrol Leader, had to endure more standard scout foods but did not seem to suffer much from it. All three came home with tales to tell and smoke in their clothes from the bonfires.

Bridal Shower

Christina hosted a bridal shower for a friend. To follow the theme of the wedding, we decorated with winter greens and added glitter and candles for an elegant yet rustic look for this Champagne Tasting. Christina got well acquainted with glitter, ribbons, scissors, and glue while preparing for the shower. Since we had lots of snow outside on our northern exposure backyard, we used snow to keep the champagnes cold.

First Snow

The first snow of 2020 fell overnight. The trees were all decked out in white, and the sun shone brightly. It is hard to believe we get to live here!

First Ski Run of 2020

We got in our first ski run in 2020 on a sunny afternoon. Lukas and Noah are getting really good at loading the car, and Noah is becoming well acquainted with the windy road up the mountain as he continues to permit drive.

Another Mile Stone

Lukas began his last semester of high school this week. He took a break after doing his science subjects to look for a few scholarships to fund his college career.
Noah enjoyed his last day of vacation sea kayaking in Florida...

Last Days of Christmas Break

I did not get a picture of Noah as he left early in the morning to fly to Florida. He left single digits for the mid-70s and purposefully left his jacket at home.
While he was gone, Lukas continued his sewing projects. With the sleeping bag complete, he made a case for cords, and when that was complete a special case for his headphones. Why he needs a case for these headphones is a mystery as they are always on his head...
Noah arrived safely back in town far too late for a photo. He was tired but excited for his time with a good friend.

Why comb the hair or cut it when there are projects to be made?

2020 Gets Off to a Great Start

New Year's Day was a hobby day. Bob and Noah moved the table saw to the garage since the shed is not heated. After many hours of drawing and calculating, Bob was ready to begin cutting the wood for the headboard.
Lukas took over the living room, making a warm sleeping bag for his brother. The final product weighs a scant 40 oz and is rated to low temperatures - perfect for Arizona winter hiking.
Christina commandeered the kitchen counters and dove into glitter and glue in preparation for a bridal shower.
The house was full of activity. The woodstove fire was roaring. A great way to begin 2020.
