Office Upgrade

Lukas has upgraded his home office - he no longer needs to sit on the ground!
Boxes are ready to be used for navigation with the robot

Bob, the Fixer

Bob packed his bucket and set out to assist a family in assembling bunk beds. He is always ready to serve, share his talents, and make things work. We are blessed!

London Bridge

On our way home to Flagstaff, we stopped to see the London Bridge. Now, we did not magically transport ourselves to London, nor make a large detour, but rather stopped in to see the London Bridge located in Arizona. Lake Havasu City is maybe best known for this landmark.

From the Lake Havasu City website:
After it was dismantled, each of its 10,276 exterior granite blocks from the original bridge was shipped to Lake Havasu City. Each block was numbered before the bridge was disassembled. The blocks were shipped overseas through the Panama Canal to California and trucked from Long Beach to Arizona. The shipping and assembly of the bridge, and dredging of a man-made channel underneath, cost $7 million.

Since nobody was waiting for us at home, we made the minor detour from the highway to see this site and check it off our bucket list.  Although a major attraction, it was relatively sparsely attended, maybe it was the fact that the thermometer read 105 in the shade, or maybe it was Covid. We appreciated the no crowd and the quick photo stop.

Wine Tasting

After driving back down to Paso Robles, we were able to find yet one more open wine tasting. After sipping wines, we headed back to the hotel with take-out Thai food, and ended the evening with a swim in the pool. Happy Father's Day to the best Dad!

Beach Walk with Scott and Willa

We met Scott and Willa on the beach further up the Monterey Bay. It was a delightful time, sand, sun, water, great company, and good exercise.

We could deliver the birthday present in person! Happy birthday, Scott!

Fresh Produce

On our way north, we visited our favorite fruit stand and could not resist a partial flat of fresh picked strawberries. Noah did not even mind having them in his lap.....

Beach Walk

On Father's Day morning, with all the work at the house complete, we headed to the beach for a walk. Although Lukas and Noah did not dig a hole, they did conquer a large sand dune. Sand, sun, and water - a great combination.

Window Washing

Lukas handled the gutters and the sky light - apparently he has not inherited his parents' aversion to heights.

Breakfast

Noah got to sleep in on Saturday morning, in preparation for his CLT test taking at noon. We headed outside to enjoy our breakfast and was reminded of the fog that envelopes the peninsula in summers. Noah enjoyed his breakfast at bit later in the bed.

Flowers

When Christina was not running to Home Depot, or picking up cold drinks for the guys working hard in the backyard, she took pictures of flowers. California flowers never disappoint.

Good friends

Christina's role while in Monterey was to keep the crew supplied with food and drinks, pick up things at Home Depot, and visit with friends. All four of us had the pleasure to enjoy dessert al fresco with dear friends - why did we not take a photo? - and on Saturday evening sweet friends brought us pizza which we ate in the driveway. Covid era is adding a whole new dimension to visiting.

California Bound

We combined business with pleasure! The California house needed some attention and it was a great reason to get out of town for a few days. One long day in the car ended in Paso Robles and a leisurely evening of wine tasting at the one winery open for tasting. We then headed up the coast to Monterey for a few days of work. Bob and the boys dismantled the tree house that had provided hours of fun for Lukas and Noah, but has now outlived its functionality. Also coming down was the tree that it was in, no more holly berries mixed into the stones in the backyard, and a brand new view from the back room windows!
Three solid days later and the tree was gone, the tree house no more, and the yard had a new look. Lots of hard work, hours of climbing and clinging to tree trunks, and even more hours chopping up and stacking the wood. A few pieces made its way into the car, maybe for a wood project?
