What's For Lunch?

Banana, peanut butter, and Nutella.

Grocery Store Explorations

The grocery store is a treasure trove of items to explore and maybe even buy. Neither of these made it into the cart.

Orderly Peppers

The red-hot peppers are not to be eaten. Many nationals drop them on the table. Noah, desiring order, placed them around the rim. He is quite proficient in his chop-sticks use.

Browsing the Store

Browsing through a local store, I found some interesting items. The most noteworthy thing about these little stores is that what is here today may very well be gone tomorrow - even the entire store. So carpe diem - if we see it, we like it, we buy it.

Fashion Statement

In the US, face masks are generally associated with hospitals and medical professionals. Here in China, it is not unusual to see people out and about wearing face masks. Entrepreneurial spirits have capitalized on the trend, and it is now possible to purchase fashion face masks - matching ones for a couple or one that is expressing sentiment or personality.  When will this hit the US???

School Area

School is happening here in Chongqing. Lukas has even set up his own little area in his bedroom.

Pomelo

Pomelo - one of our new favorite fruits. When we first arrived here in Chongqing, the fruit stands offered delicate miniature plums and crisp Asian pears.  The season changed and the watermelon guy, whose truck had been filled with green melons, was suddenly filled with large yellow orbs.  At first glance, it looked like he was selling supersized grapefruits.  Although in the same family as grapefruit, the pomelo is sweeter and the juice sacs much larger. As the season progresses, all the fruit stands as well as the grocery stores display the large, eye-catching yellow balls. Scent and weight are how we pick a good one. Based on pricing, it is apparent that the ruby red version is considered better - we have found the pale yellow to be just as tasty and often a bit juicier. Inside the tough peel and the thick pith are large sections of deliciousness - and lots of vitamin C. Hauling these up the hill certainly must count as a workout, each weighs about 4-5 lbs.
